North Dakota Unemployment Extension
With the state’s unemployment rates as high as 5.1 percent this past January and the potential for such a percentage to continue to rise, it is no wonder that many residents of North Dakota are asking questions about making unemployment claims and North Dakota unemployment extension eligibility. The increase in the unemployment rate is a stark 1.7 percent increase since December of 2008, and many people are looking to avail themselves of some income until they can once again become gainfully employed. What is nice about the North Dakota unemployment extension offering is that the number of weeks one is eligible for unemployment has been extended in order to meet the needs of the unemployed during the country’s present economic/job workforce crisis.

The North Dakota unemployment extension program was first implemented in the summer of 2008 and has now been extended until the end of 2009 in December. When an individual runs out of standard unemployment insurance benefits and he or she remains unemployed at that time, he or she can be deemed eligible for an additional twenty weeks of unemployment benefits. The additional funding for the extra twenty weeks is provided by the Federal government, which makes such payments differ from the payments one receives for traditional EU benefits since such payments are made by the claimant’s former employer(s).
In order to qualify for the North Dakota unemployment extension program, individuals will have to file a brand new claim with the Unemployment Compensation agency. Anyone who uses up all benefits in the regular unemployment program will get a letter indicating their EUC eligibility. To file for The North Dakota unemployment extension program, claimants can visit a nearby claims center or they can call in their claims at 701.328.4995. Claims can also be filed on the Internet.
